Why Is My Furnace Blowing Cold Air?
Champaign, IL, is well-known for freezing winter temperatures. And if your furnace is blowing cold air, you’re not prepared for the harsh weather ahead. Here are some reasons why your furnace might be blowing cold as opposed to warm air.
Incorrect Thermostat Setting
Your thermostat should have an On and Auto setting. These settings tell the fan inside your furnace to either run continuously or only when necessary.
If your furnace is set to the On mode, that could be the reason why it’s blowing cold air. However, if it’s set to Auto, it’ll blow a continuous stream of warm air based on the thermostat setting. The best option is to set your thermostat to Auto. If this doesn’t solve the problem, contact an HVAC service technician for assistance.
There’s Not Enough Gas
A gas furnace needs an adequate supply of fuel. If there’s not enough fuel, the result could be cooler air. Your heating system won’t work well or maybe not at all if it’s unable to perform the heating process.
Any repair that involves gas is potentially dangerous. Kick the notion of DIY out of your mind and seek help from a professional heating company. It’s possible you might be due for an installation upgrade.
The Air Filter is Dirty
If your furnace easily overheats, that could be why you feel cold air being released. A safety device within your furnace turns off the burners if overheating occurs. The fan remains running to cool your heater, and the result is cold air.
Overheating usually occurs because the furnace isn’t getting enough airflow. And a dirty filter is the number one cause of airflow restriction. Replacing the filter just might solve your problem.
